You have probably thought about quitting for a long time but for one reason or another, it just never happened. Maybe you simply felt that you were under too much pressure at home or at the job to stop smoking the cigarettes just yet or maybe you were afraid that you would gain weight if you stopped smoking. Some people are simply afraid of failure and since there is a risk that you could mess up when you are trying to stop smoking, it could be scary.

You need to understand that a lot of the habit in completely mental. It is important that you get yourself beyond this mental block in order to stop smoking cigarettes. You will want to make absolutely sure that you are prepared for the mental ups and downs that will come when you try to stop smoking.

People who tell you that you shouldn’t worry about cravings are people who have never experienced addiction. An excellent way to help you through this process is to make a list of the reasons why you want to quit smoking and to remind yourself every day by reading that list out loud to yourself.

You are probably interested in electronic cigarettes and what they can do for you, like so many other people. One thing you will like about electronic cigarettes is that they are apparently not as harmful to you, as they do not have the thousands of chemicals that normal cigarettes have.

Electronic cigarettes also give you the same “feel” as if you were smoking a normal cigarette and this is part of the reason that many people stop using patches or gums because they are not getting the feel of smoking. In additon, you don’t have the risk of getting tar into your lungs or the lungs of those in your presence. As there is still nicotine in electronic cigarette, you will need to employ other management skills to ensure that you will be able to eventually quit smoking altogether. An excellent method is to spread your cigarette consumption out more each day.

If you reduce the amount that you smoke over a few weeks or months, you body will become accustomed to not getting as much nicotine. While you can do this with normal cigarettes, there is no reason why you would want to. Normal cigarettes are packed with tar and all the harmful chemicals that cause the damage.

As long as you are commitment to no longer smoking, you will eventually get there. It could take you a few days, a few weeks or even a few months. It could take you a year to fully stop smoking and that is okay as long as you eventually get to your desired end result. Taking a year to completely stop smoking is much better than continuing to smoke for the rest of your life.
