Now more than ever, having healthy lungs is critical for healthy living. After all, our environment is being loaded with toxins that assault your pulmonary health on a daily basis. And recall that oxygen is required to produce energy.

Mesothelioma is a sort of cancer that is nearly always caused by being exposed to asbestos. In this disease, malevolent cells develop in the mesothelium, a protecting lining that covers the majority of the body’s internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura ( outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall ), but it may also happen in the peritoneum ( the lining of the intestinal cavity ), the heart, the pericardium ( a sac that surrounds the heart ) or tunica vaginalis.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is the most common form of mesothelioma, which is a cancer affecting the mesothelium. Only around 3000 total mesothelioma cases are reported a year in the United States and the pleural form accounts for three-fourths of it. It affects the pleura, which is the lining that protects the lungs. The pleura is constructed with two membranous layers to shores up the lungs and shields the lung cavity. While the outer layer guards the chest cavity and diaphragm, the inner one called the visceral layer encompasses the lungs. Pleural mesothelioma usually attacks one of these layers initially but may spread to the other layer too. The cancer is invariably caused by the asbestos particles trapped in the spaces available between mesothelium cells after being inhaled.

Asbestosis mesothelioma is a disease affecting the parenchyma tissue of the lungs. It is an occupational lung disease just like mesothelioma cancer as long term heavy exposure to asbestos particles alone causes it. The parenchymal tissues would remain permanently sore and irritable resulting in dyspnea or shortness of breath and increased chances of contracting lung cancer. Due to over-exposure to asbestos, plaque would form above the diaphragm, which can be detected in X-ray tests.

Asbestos is the main culprit behind the dangerous type of cancer, mesothelioma. Majority of the mesothelioma cases reported have a background history of exposure to asbestos behind them. Then also, cases have been reported rarely of this cancer where there was no involvement of asbestos particles. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral which can be separated into fine threads. It is widely used in industries like manufacturing cement, brake linings, roof shingles, flooring products, textiles and insulation. Many hapless workers have become victims of asbestos mesothelioma due to the wide usage of the mineral.

Cancer mesothelioma affects the protective lining of our internal organs called mesothelium and is a fatal disease. It is usually acquired as a result of prolonged contact with asbestos. Many workers have lost their lives and their families are shattered because of this disease. Asbestos has been banned at workplaces, though it has not produced many results. The reason behind this is that mesothelioma cancer develops only many years after the person is exposed to asbestos.

Mesothelioma treatment is based on several factors, including the stage of infection, the area of infection, how much the contamination has spread, the nature of the affected cells and the age and overall health of the infected person. Infected persons are usually briefed about the success rates before embarking on any treatment process.

The main factor responsible for contracting mesothelioma is working with asbestos. About 70 to 80 percent of all mesothelioma cases have a history of asbestos exposure behind them. In spite of this, there have been a few cases of this malicious cancer, where asbestos exposure was not involved. Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral as masses of flexible fibers which can be separated into fine threads and woven. There are many industrial products which make use of asbestos like, cement, brake linings, flooring products, roof shingles, textiles and insulation. Thus asbestos mesothelioma becomes a serious health hazard to many workers.

Mesothelioma lawsuit comes as a great relief for patients assailed by the mental, social and financial problems associated with the deadly disease. Anybody who has developed mesothelioma through exposure to asbestos is eligible to file the lawsuit. Even if the patient had succumbed to the disease, the law suit can be filed by a family member or the executor of the deceased’s estate. Sometimes it happens that the family members also contract the disease owing to close contact with the person who was exposed to asbestos. In such cases, the family members can also file the lawsuit for compensation.
